Fans Are Scratching Their Heads Over This Confusing ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Puzzle

Friday night’s episode of Wheel of Fortune had viewers glued to their screens—not just for the tricky puzzles, but for a Bonus Round twist that left many fans both shocked and entertained.

Contestants Battle It Out

On March 28, three contestants took the stage: Stephen Sporer from St. Paul, Minnesota, Christina White from Long Beach, California, and Megan Russell from Sylvester, West Virginia. The evening started strong, with Sporer and Russell solving the first two toss-ups and earning $1,000 each.

The opening puzzle, however, threw everyone for a loop. All three contestants landed on Bankrupt, keeping the scores tight. Ultimately, Russell solved the puzzle, taking home $3,500.

What’s the ‘Green Flash’?

The second puzzle, under the category “Event,” introduced the phrase that left many viewers scratching their heads: Seeing the green flash. Christina White solved it correctly, but the phrase sparked widespread curiosity online.

Reddit users expressed their confusion: “The Event category puzzle—what did that even mean???” asked one fan. Another admitted, “No idea.”

Luckily, hosts Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White cleared things up later in the episode. Vanna explained that the “green flash” is a rare optical phenomenon seen just as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a brief green glow. Seacrest added, “When I’m sitting there watching a sunset, you see this green refraction of light—it’s quite beautiful.” Fans appreciated the explanation, with many admitting they had never seen it before.

Sporer Shines in the Final Stretch

Christina White scored big in the Prize Puzzle Round, solving Take a shower under a waterfall to earn $9,000 and a luxurious trip to Aruba. But Stephen Sporer dominated the final stretch, winning all three Triple Toss-Ups and adding $10,000 to his total. He then solved the last puzzle, In the home stretch, securing his spot in the Bonus Round with $35,000. White ended strong with $22,132, while Russell finished with $5,800.

The Bonus Round Blunder

With friends and family cheering him on, Sporer faced the Bonus Round category “Phrase.” The puzzle board revealed:

O N O _ R _ _ _

Sporer chose the letters C, M, G, and O, but hesitation filled the studio as he struggled to solve it. Despite several attempts, he missed the correct answer: On Our Way.

The moment stunned viewers at home. “I GOT IT!! I cannot believe he didn’t know it was ‘On Our Way,’” one YouTube user wrote. Another admitted, “I was yelling the answer at my TV repeatedly, haha!”

Even with the misstep, Sporer walked away with an impressive $35,000—but the missed opportunity to add $40,000 made this one of the show’s most talked-about Bonus Round moments.
