A few years after Barack Obama famously said Drake “can do anything he wants,” the Canadian rapper was recently spotted partying alongside the former first daughters, Malia and Sasha Obama. The sisters, now adults, were enjoying a night out at a Hollywood hotspot, embracing their independence and making headlines in their own right.
Growing Up in the Spotlight
Life in the White House came with constant scrutiny for Malia (born July 4, 1998) and Sasha (born June 10, 2001). From 2009 to 2017, the daughters of Barack and Michelle Obama were under the world’s watchful eye, learning early how to balance privacy with public life.
Michelle Obama shared on the Moments That Make Us podcast, “They had to be smart, confident, and independent straight away, even with butlers, maids, and florists around. I raised them knowing one day they’d have to manage their own lives.”

After graduating high school in 2016, Malia took a gap year to explore the entertainment industry, working as a production assistant on Halle Berry’s CBS sci-fi series Extant and contributing as a writer to Amazon’s Swarm. In 2021, she graduated from Harvard University.

Sasha Finds Her Path
Sasha, described by Barack as “the comedian of the family,” graduated high school in 2019 and began her studies at the University of Michigan during the Covid pandemic. She earned her sociology degree from the University of Southern California in May 2023.
The sisters now share a home in Los Angeles, supporting each other as they navigate adulthood. Michelle Obama said, “It feels good to know that the two girls you raised find solace at a kitchen table with one another. It’s the one thing you want for them.”
All Grown Up and Out on the Town
Malia and Sasha’s recent night out with Drake at The Bird Streets Club in Los Angeles captured the attention of fans everywhere. Both sisters showed off their bold, stylish looks: Sasha in a black cropped corset and cargo pants, and Malia in a sheer lace-up top with high-waisted printed trousers. The pair partied with friends until 4 a.m., embracing their freedom and independence.
Drake, who was in town for his “It’s All A Blur Big As The What?” tour, shares mutual admiration with the Obamas. He even expressed interest in portraying Barack in a biopic—a concept the former president playfully endorsed, noting, “Drake seems to be able to do anything he wants… I suspect Malia and Sasha would be just fine with it.”
